Week of 9th February 2026
Please see the attached ppt, shown to parents on Thuesday, 12th, regarding SATs in May.
Week of 2nd February 2026
We started the week feeling refreshed as we finally stepped into February and out of the long month of January; what a fantastic and full week we have had!
🌟 Rock Kidz Visit
We started the week with an exciting visit from Rock Kidz. Their high‑energy sessions taught us important messages about kindness, including others, and ‘Living It Loud’. The children had a brilliant time singing, dancing and taking part in the activities—there were smiles all round!
📚 English – Native American Myths
In English, we have begun exploring Native American myths. These traditional stories were passed down orally through generations and often explain:
The children worked in groups to analyse a myth, rehearse it and then share it with other groups around the classroom. Their teamwork and storytelling skills were wonderful to see.
🔢 Maths – Introducing Algebra!
This week, Year 6 stepped confidently into the world of algebra.
We talked about how algebra is something we actually use all the time without realising—it's simply a way of using symbols to represent unknown numbers.
For example:
7x + 3 = 24
The children enjoyed working out by reversing the operations:
24 − 3 = 21
21 ÷ 7 = 3, so x = 3.
They have shown great enthusiasm and curiosity-what a fantastic start!
🎉 NSPCC Number Day
We ended the week with one of our favourite events of the year: Number Day, raising money for the NSPCC.
The children came dressed in brilliant number‑themed outfits and took part in a whole range of activities, including:
A huge well done to all the children for their effort, kindness and teamwork throughout the day.
🌼 Looking Ahead
It has been a wonderful week of learning, fun, and collaboration. We are excited for the week ahead before we all enjoy a well‑deserved rest and recharge ready for Spring 2.
Have a lovely weekend!

Week of 26th January 2026
Well here we are, coming towards the end of January! It's been another busy week in Year 6 - Assessment Week. More practice for us all to test ourselves, improve our pace and show how much we have learnt. We have already shared Scaled Scores and progress is looking really good. The children are taking fantastic ownership of their learning and taking pride in their progress. It was wonderful to see the classes show such maturity this week.
Once we finished our tests on Thursday, we were lucky enough to have an extra PE session - football skills with a Specialist Teacher. We were dribbling the ball whilst keeping control and then overlapping in pairs. We also looked at how to change direction to get past a defender. It was a great session and everyone enjoyed it.
In DT this week, we created a design for a dreamcatcher - we will making our very own dreamcatchers very soon!
Have a great weekend everyone and see you next week - Rock Kidz on Monday and Number Day on Friday!

Week of 19th January 2026
In Maths this week we moved on to look at Position and Direction and focused on coordinates. In our first lesson, we brought chalk onto the playground and drew life-size grids so that we plot and place ourselves on certain points.
We continued through the week by translating shapes - moving shapes around the four quadrants and again, being accurate with our coordinates.
In Computing we continued our work on Bletchley Park and looked at brute force hacking. This was to show how easily a computer could guess our passwords and reinforces the importance of a very strong password. The children used a Scratch emulator to write code that tried to guess a 4-digit number.
Having planned our explanation texts, we got to write them this week in English, all about dreamcatchers. We have been creative in our presentation and know that they will look fabulous once they are finished.
Finally, some of us got to Young Voices at the O2 and we had a super time, singing our hearts out!

Week of 12th January 2026
We have continued to work on % in Maths - lots more practice for fluency as well as moving on to problem solving. This has been a great challenge for both classes - real life Maths to really stimulate our brains. Next week, we will move onto a very different area of Maths - coordinates and translating and reflecting shapes.
In English this week we have been learning about the indigenous people of North America - the first people to settle in these lands. We will be writing explanation texts next week about these fascinating cultures and have been busy doing our own research.

'Electric' fun continued in Science with our investigation into whether adding cells to a circuit will increase the brightness of a bulb, the speed of a motor or the sound of a buzzer. It was a busily fun time and on the whole, most were correct with their predictions.
On Thursday, Georgia from Accent Catering, held a healthy eating workshop for us. The focus was on eating a rainbow of fruit and vegetables and the children made (and ate!) fruit kebabs. It was a really informative session and we all came away with some great ideas about how we could incorporate more healthy alternatives into our diet.
The week has flown! Have a great weekend everyone and see you again next week.

Week of 5th of January 2026
Happy New Year! A new year and a new term, spring although it’s definitely feeling very wintry!
Our first full week back and we continued where we left off before Christmas with maths: fractions, decimals and percentages and finding a percentage of an amount. Lots of practice this week and more to come next week; we will also move on to problem solving with percentages.
A new term means a new topic in English: North and South America, a geography focus that will prompt our English. So far we have learned about the North American continent and then looked more specifically at the USA: we have located the 50 states and compared the USA with the UK. Do you know how many counties there are in the UK? We now know!
In Science, we have continued with our Electricity topic and have been learning about the international symbols for the different components of a circuit and next week, we will be building circuits and investigating voltage.
Have a great weekend.
