December 13th - 16th
What a crazy last week we have had!
The children really enjoyed their Christmas party on Monday after school and had great fun with Coach Danielle! They all looked splendid in their party outfits.
Christmas dinner and jumper day on Wednesday again saw the children wearing some brilliant Christmassy outfits. They enjoyed the festive spirit during our lunch time, pulling crackers and wearing the cracker hats.
The children have worked so hard this term and deserve a well earned rest!
Enjoy the Christmas break and thank you for all your support and hard work with the children's homework and reading this term.
We look forward to seeing you in 2022, refreshed and ready to carry on our learning journey.
December 6th - 10th
The children have been writing captions independently and drawing pictures to match their writing. The children wrote their own letters to Santa including a wish list of gifts.
They have been counting objects accurately to match number cards. They have been using their creative skills to make surprise gifts to bring home next week.
We enjoyed performing all our Christmas songs to our parents on Monday. Thank you to those parent/carers who were able to attend, the children were very proud of themselves and we were proud of how well they sang all those songs!
29th November - 3rd December
This week we have been thinking about and making the number 7.
In our phonics lessons we have been writing lots of cvc words and practising our handwriting.
During an early morning carpet session the children worked in small groups to sort vehicles onto a poster. Can your child name a land, sea or air vehicle?
We continue thinking about different vehicles as part of our theme on Transport and have been creating collages to add to a classroom display. This week we read the story of A Duck in a Truck and the children created their own front covers as part of their writing work.
In maths we have focused on the numbers 6 and 7. The children have used a variety of objects and different equipment to represent the numbers.
Hello and welcome to Reception at TWS
We have had a busy start to our new term and you can see lots of photos of your child on Tapestry. If you have any problems with your login please speak to Mrs Jones in the Broadway office.
Our topic this term is: All About Me. We will encourage the children to talk about themselves, their likes and dislikes, family and pets, favourite colours and birthdays. Our writing and creative work will be based around these areas.
These are the staff in the reception classes this year:-

Please read a minimum of four times with your child each week. Share and discuss the books they bring home. Please ensure you sign and date each time. Your child will be rewarded for reading regularly at home.
Our PE days are Monday and Thursday. Please ensure your child is wearing the correct kit and if they have earrings these are taken out and long hair is tied back.
Please send in a pair of wellies and a water bottle for your child, both need to be clearly labelled.
It was lovely meeting you all and helping the children settle as they begin their journey through school.

Reception Class Photographs
Don't forget to look out for the class photos in the Guardian newspaper. Here's a sneaky peek...
4th - 8th October 2021
This week the children in Beech and Elm class have been telling us all about their families.
Thank you to all the parents who uploaded a family photograph to Tapestry for their child to share with their class. The children really enjoyed seeing their family pictures in school.
Our shared reading book this week was, Five Minutes Peace by Jill Murphy.
The children enjoyed reading the story and discussing the different characters in the Large family.
The children sequenced the characters by height and used size language to make comparisons between the characters.
The children drew their own families, thinking about who was the tallest and the shortest in their own families.
Black History Month
The children in Reception have been listening to the celloist, Sheku Kanneh-Mason perform, 'The Swan' from the Carnival of the Animals.
The children moved around the hall like a swan, in time to the music.
Sheku Kanneh-Mason was the first Black musician to win the BBC Young Musician award in 2016 and he played at the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in 2018.
18th - 22nd October
The children in Elm and Beech classes put on their wellington boots and enjoyed looking for signs of Autumn on the school field. They collected lots of different Autumn coloured leaves.
The children have been printing Autumn trees using corks and paint for the leaves.
Autumn Term 2
Welcome to the second half of the Autumn term. Our topic this term is Transport.
1st - 5th November 2021
This week the children have been learning about road safety and different ways of travelling.
In maths the children made a class bar chart to show the different ways they travel to school.
The children drew maps to show what they see on their way to school and engaged in outdoor role-play with the bikes and our role-play zebra crossing to show what they had learnt about road safety.
This week we have continued with our learning about transport.
We have been writing number sentences about the passengers getting on and off the bus.
We have discussed with the children why Poppies are used for Remembrance Day. The children painted some poppies for us to create a wreath as part of our whole school 2 minute silence for Remembrance Day.
This week we have continued with our Transport theme but with a focus on trains. We have been making 2d shape trains and writing subtraction number sentences about passengers getting off the train.
We continue to focus on blending our letters to make cvc words and the children have been writing captions in their special green books.
