At Thomas Willingale School and Nursery we see Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE) as being at the centre of all that we do. Through our curriculum, our school environment and our school ethos, we promote pupils’ self-esteem and emotional well-being and help them to form and maintain worthwhile and satisfying relationships, based on respect for themselves and for others, at home, at school, at work and in the community. We teach most of our PSHE curriculum through the myHappymind programme - please see below for more information about this.
Through our RSE lessons we will provide a framework in which sensitive discussions can take place. This will prepare pupils for puberty, and give them an understanding of sexual development and the importance of health and hygiene. Pupils will develop feelings of self-respect, confidence and empathy. Pupils will use the correct vocabulary to describe themselves and their bodies. Pupils’ self-esteem and emotional well-being will be promoted, allowing them to form and maintain worthwhile and satisfying relationships throughout their lives.
myHappymind
We are proud to be a part of the myHappymind Family! As a whole school programme grounded in science and dedicated to building positive mental wellbeing, myHappymind helps children understand how their brains work and creates a culture that helps to build children's resilience, confidence, and self-esteem. myHappymind also teaches the children how to self-regulate and manage their emotions in stressful times, allowing them to be their very best selves! It is spilt into 5 modules.
Module Descriptions
Meet Your Brain: Understanding how your brain works and how to ensure we look after it so that we can manage our emotions and be at our best. Growth mindset is a key part of this too.
Celebrate: Understanding your unique character strengths and learning to celebrate them. This is a fantastic module for building self-esteem.
Appreciate: Understanding why gratitude matters and how you can develop gratitude as a habit. Gratitude is key to well-being and resilience and we're all about making it a habit!
Relate: Understanding why positive relationships matter and how to build them. We're focussed on the building blocks of good relationships and friendships.
Engage: Understanding how to set meaningful goals that matter and how to keep resilient in times of challenge. This module is all about building self-esteem and resilience too.

The Parent App will support you as a parent in understanding what your child is learning, activities for you to do together at home and also a Kids Zone featuring myHappymind Games plus much more!
To access these materials just go to https://myhappymind.org/parent-resources to create your free account. You will need to enter your name, email, and authentication code, this code can be found on poster around the school (e.g. on the school playground, at the nursery and reception entrances, at the front office).
