The Brilliant Club
The Brilliant Club is for selected children in Years 5 or 6 who work at a higher standard in English. The aim is to inspire young children to work hard and hopefully, one day, attend university themselves through giving them a 'university' like learning experience.
They are tutored weekly for six hourly sessions by a university lecturer in a specific area and have to complete a written paper at the end in order to be awarded their 'degree'. They also get the opportunity to visit a university once they have completed the course, to see what university life could be like and take part in a mock graduation with children from other schools.
Last year the children studied a literature course entitled 'Into the Deep, Dark Woods.' The children looked at how nature is depicted in literature, how it is used to create an atmosphere and how it impacts the readers' feelings about the text.
Well done to the 14 Year 5 children that took part, completed their final assignments and attended the graduation ceremony.
