The Brilliant Club is for selected children in Years 5 or 6 who work at a higher standard in English. The aim is to inspire young children to work hard and hopefully, one day, attend university themselves through giving them a 'university' like learning experience.
They are tutored weekly for six hourly sessions by a university lecturer in a specific area and have to complete a written paper at the end in order to be awarded their 'degree'. They also get the opportunity to visit a university once they have completed the course, to see what university life could be like and take part in a mock graduation with children from other schools.
This year (Spring 2025) the Brilliant Club children have been studying a course entitled ‘What is Fairness?’ Some of the topics the children learnt about as part of the course included Fair Trade and human rights.
A huge well done to the 14 Year 5 children who took part and completed their assignments, copies of which can be seen below. I am sure you will agree they have written some fabulous essays.
We are also delighted to share some pictures of the graduation which was held at King's College, London.
