Welcome Back!

It has been wonderful to see the children return to school and they have adapted well to the new KS2 routines.  They are settling well into their new classes and making new friends.

We are looking forward to seeing lots of parents at our Parent Meeting on Monday 14th September which will be held in Holly class at 2.50pm.  This meeting will inform you about the Year 3 Curriculum and everything you need to know as your child transitions from Year 2 to Year 3.

We will update this page every week with lots of information about the children's learning so stay tuned!

Week Beginning 7th September

We've had a great week at school and the children have settled in well and showing us how amazing they are.

Some of the children went to Legoland on Monday and had  great time so check out the photos below.

Maths 

We have been learning about place value and exploring numbers up to 100.  We can partition numbers into tens and ones, using base 10 equipment and jottings. We can order numbers to 100 by using the tens digit to help us.

Science 

This week we have been learning about the importance of roots in plants and how they soak up the water and nutrients from the soil. 

PE 

This term we are learning how to play rugby.  This week we learnt how to hold a rugby ball correctly and how to put it on the floor for a 'try'.

History and Art 

We began our topic about Trade and Transport!  The children thought about what they already know and what they want to learn.  In art, we made our Christmas cards for Cauliflower cards. They will be coming home to you next wee . 

The children have new spellings to learn ready for next Friday. Please spend some time with your children reading, practising spellings and times tables.  Homework will be sent out next Thursday 17th September.

Week Beginning 14th September

This week, we wrote our own instructions on how to train a robot to... We focused on using adverbs ending in -ly to make our instructions clear and interesting.

In Maths, we have been exploring 3-digit numbers. We practised partitioning numbers into hundreds, tens and ones and used this to develop our understanding of place value.

                       

In Science, we learnt about the functions of leaves and why they are important to plants. We also made leaf rubbings before carefully labelling the different parts of a leaf. 

                                    

This week, we started our tag rugby lessons. The children enjoyed developing their rugby skills and learning how to work together as a team.

We continued learning about the Stone Age and discovered that Stone Age people traded tools and other items. We then used clay to create our own Stone Age-inspired tools.

   

In Computing, we had our first introduction to AI (Artificial Intelligence). We discussed what AI is and learnt some important rules for using AI safely and responsibly.

Please continue to support your child at home by reading regularly, practising spellings and learning times tables.
