Special Educational Needs and Disabilities

Our Inclusion Manager and SENDCo is Lorna Ford Richards, you can contact her by calling the school number on 0208 5087287  and pressing 3. Alternatively you can email her on l.ford@thomaswillingale.essex.sch.uk

The Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Code of Practice states that:

"A pupil has SEND where their learning and/or disability requires special educational provision, that is different from or additional to that normally available to pupils of the same age".

The school identifies children with special needs at an early age. In line with the SEND Code of Practice, 2015 we have a graduated response to our provision for children who have additional needs.  This is detailed in the link below.

Usually the teachers will identify when a child needs extra support but sometimes a child may be receiving support before they start school. If you have any concerns, questions or information relating to your child and the need for additional support please speak to the Inclusion Manager. It is vital for the child’s sake that the communications between home and school are good.

Parents are expected to participate in their child’s learning programme.

The children’s progress is monitored regularly and their targets are adjusted accordingly.

Parents will be invited to review their child’s provision with the class teacher or Inclusion Manager (SENDCo), Mrs L. Ford Richards.

At Thomas Willingale School and Nursery, we work to ensure that we provide the best provision we can to enable our pupils to fulfil their potential.

From September 2014, all schools are required to share their School Offer with regard to provision for SEND on their school website as well as their SEND School Information report.  The links below detail our school’s offer.
