Art vision and intent at TWS

Art and Design is a medium for the celebration of culture and diversity and as such offers a rich platform from which children can learn about a range of perspectives. As artists at TWS we want the children to be able to have the ability to use visual language skilfully and convincingly (for example, line, shape, pattern, colour, texture, form) to express emotions, interpret observations, convey insights and accentuate their individuality. They will build their capability to communicate fluently in visual and tactile form, and develop the ability to draw confidently and adventurously from observation, memory and imagination. As artists, children will be given the opportunity to explore and invent marks, develop and deconstruct ideas and communicate perceptively and powerfully through purposeful drawing in 2D, 3D or digital media. At TWS the children will have exposure to a wide range of artists, craft makers and designers to support them in building their knowledge and understanding of art in a wider global context and throughout history. They will be encouraged to think critically and reflectively, using their knowledge and understanding to inform, inspire and interpret ideas, observations and feelings. This in turn will shape their independence, initiative and originality which they can use to develop their own creativity. Individuality will be celebrated and as the children become more resilient they will develop a passion for and a commitment to the subject.
