Thomas Willingale School and Nursery

History

We follow the Chris Quigley curriculum for history. There are three milestones: Milestone 1 for Years 1 and 2, Milestone 2 for Years 3 and 4 and Milestone 3 for Years 5 and 6. The milestones build on previous ones thus extending the children's skills and knowledge as they move through the school.

Our history is taught through a spiral curriculum approach where the children will come across the same periods in history many times but from a different perspective. For instance, in Year 3 the children learn about Transport and Trade, within this theme they will look at transport and trade in the Iron Age and Roman period. In Year 4 they study 'Buildings' and once again they will look at buildings in the Stone Age and the Roman period.

Children will be taught 'sticky knowledge' - the facts and information we want them to learn. These sticky facts can be seen on our Progression maps.
